Portion of Pedestrian Floodwall Trail, Riverboat Row to Close During Stormwater Line Installation

Thursday, July 12, 2018

PUBLIC  NOTICE:  Portions of the pedestrian path atop the Ohio River floodwall and a section of Riverboat Row in Newport will close for approximately three months for the installation of a stormwater line.

The project is a cooperative effort between the City of Newport, SD1 and Capital Investment Group, the Cincinnati-based developer of the Aqua on the Levee apartments.

“On behalf of the City of Newport and SD1, we will be open cutting the flood wall in order to install a new storm pipe,” said Brian Crecco of Capital Investment Group. “This will shut down the pedestrian across the top of floodwall as well as Riverboat Row for an extended period of time. The schedule is approximately three months total.”

The impacted sections of the floodwall are east of the Purple People Bridge extending along the flood levee pedestrian trail and along Riverboat Row.  Riverboat Row road and parking access will be closed for the duration of the project.  The flood levee pedestrian trail will be closed beginning July 23rd.

"SD1 is pleased to partner with Capital Investment Group on this important project for the City of Newport," said SD1 Executive Director Adam Chaney. "This is an example of how SD1 works with our project partners to find innovative and cost-effective solutions to keep our local waterways clean and improve water quality by reducing sewer overflows and increasing capacity to meet the needs of our community."

“The City is happy to be part of this project, furthering our commitment to Economic Development.” Said City Manager Tom Fromme. “We hope the temporary closure of this public space will have minimal impact to the use of our riverfront, and appreciate the public’s patience during the summer festival season.”

The remainder of Riverboat Row will continue to be open for public access and during festivals until further notice.
