Parks and Recreation

The Recreation Department is pleased to offer summertime fun at the Veterans Memorial Pool located on Caroline Drive. Other times of the year our residents can enjoy twelve parks and recreational areas. The parks, locations, and features are listed below and the larger parks are marked on the map at the bottom of this page. The parks close at dusk and guests must be out of the parks before dark. Here are the Dates and Rates for the 2016 Season at Veterans Memorial Pool

Pool opens daily from Saturday, May 28th through Sunday, August 7th, weather permitting.
Special evening and weekend hours from Monday, August 8th through Sunday, Sept. 4, weather permitting --- this schedule is tentative depends on attendance.

Hours of Operation May 28 through Aug. 7:
Sunday through Thursday operating hours are 12:00 noon to 6:00 p.m.
Friday and Saturday operating hours are 12:00 noon to 8:00 p.m.
Pool may close early for Pool Parties & Swim/Dive Competitions*

Hours of Operation Aug. 8 through Aug. 28 (Admission only $2):
Weekday Evenings 5 p.m.  to 9 p.m.
Saturday Noon to 8 p.m.
Sunday Noon to 6 p.m.

Special Pricing on Memorial Day Weekend! Saturday, May 28th through Monday, May 30th you can enjoy the pool for only $1.

Regular Rates for the 2016 Season:

Children 4 and under Free
Children 5-12 $3.00
Ages 13 - Adult $3.00
Seniors (65) Free
Military with ID Free

Pool Passes and Parties

Single Pass $50.00
Family Pass $150.00 Includes 5 household members (additional family members $25.00)
Institutional Pass $350.00 Includes 1 adult and 10 children

Pool Parties (Sunday through Thursday from 7 to 9 p.m. and Friday through Saturday from 8 to 10 p.m.) are $250 for up to 75 people in the pool or $300 for over 75 people in the pool. Call 292.3686 to schedule a pool party.

*Pool Closings

The Veteran’s Memorial Pool will close early on the following dates due to swim and/or dive team competitions. The pool area must be cleared, cleaned, and setup for the events.

There is no charge for admission. All are welcome to watch and cheer on our Newport Penguin swimmers and divers.

Information about participating in this great summertime activity can be found at www.newportpenguins.org. Prior swim experience is not a requirement, but assessments of any and all participants are conducted for safety. Financial assistance is available, see Pengins site for details.

Make a SPLASH with the NEWPORT PENGUINS

The Newport Penguins Swim & Dive Team was founded in 2012 and is a member of the Northern Kentucky Swim League. The Team is supported by the City of Newport, private sponsorship, and its families and athletes. Newport's Veteran's Memorial Pool serves as the Team's home. As a part of the Newport Foundation, Inc., the Team is a Kentucky non-profit organized by its volunteer Boosters Committee. Learn how you can join or support the team at newportpenguins.org 

 

Recreation

The City Recreation Department and the Newport Recreation Commission partner together on a number of the events that are provided each year for the enjoyment of residents of all ages. Some of these special events include the Annual Easter Egg Hunt, the Memorial Day Parade and service, the Senior Picnic, the Veterans Day service, Monsters on Monmouth, and the Senior Lights and Sights Tour in December.
