Human Resources establishes and
administers personnel services to employees. The mission of Human
Resources is to provide services in personnel management and
employment. The framework for
Human Resources is to: monitor personnel actions (hire, promote, transfer,
discharge) by assuring adherence to federal, state, and local laws,
regulations, and bargaining unit contracts; administer the job
classification and compensation plan; establish and maintain health and
dental plans; and ensure a discrimination free workplace.
Human
Resources are responsible for overseeing the hiring of all City
positions. These duties
include recruitment, advertisement of vacant positions, qualifying of
applicants for interview, new employee processing and orientation. Human
Resources also maintains the official personnel records for City
employees.
Human Resources is responsible for the design,
development, and implementation of the testing and training functions for
the City of Newport.
Human Resources also
administers the health and dental care plans, deferred compensation, basic
and supplemental life insurance, and retirement.
