Thank you for visiting the City of Newport’s website! We are a U.S. Passport Application Acceptance Agency. Before you make a trip to your office or refer someone else, we would like to offer you the following information.

The City Building in Newport is located at 998 Monmouth Street (the corner of 10 th and Monmouth Street).

We accept passport applications Monday through Friday from 9 a.m.to 3 p.m. Allow thirty minutes per person for the application process.

You will need to submit your original birth certificate or a certified copy. Photocopies and hospital birth certificates are not acceptable. We need the original or a certified copy with a raised, embossed, or a multi-colored seal. Your birth certificate will be returned to you by mail with your passport.

Bring a photo I.D. such as a driver’s license, military, or school I.D.

You will need to bring two identical color photos with a solid, white or light colored background. They should be forward facing, clear photos, free of shadows, with a good contrast to show facial contours. Both photos must be well centered, with the head and face measuring 1” – 1 3/8” high and the photo itself measuring 2” x 2”. The standards for photos are very stringent and we do not recommend taking them at home. Many local department and drug stores offer photo service for under $15 including Walgreens stores and many others.

Please remember to bring your checkbook with you, as we do not accept credit cards. The fees are outlined below. We can only accept personal checks, money orders or cashier’s checks for your passport fee, as we cannot send money through the mail. The passport fee to the U.S. Dept. of State must be paid separately for each application. However, application fees to the City of Newport may be combined on one check or we can accept cash for our portion of the fees if this is more convenient for you.

Adult passports are good for 10 years.

Renewals may be done yourself by mail if you can submit your old passport, if you were at least 16 when it was issued, if it was issued less than 15 years ago and your name has not changed except by marriage or court order.
